The Presence of a Sacred Implement, Woven into Everyday Dress.


A formal double-strand juzu, known as a honshiki juzu, is traditionally made with 108 beads. This number is said to represent the 108 worldly attachments of the human heart. For generations, the juzu has been used as a tool for quieting the mind, with each bead passing gently through the fingers.

Inspired by this traditional form, we created a long necklace.

At its heart is the wooden bead carved by a Buddhist sculptor—an essential element in every Hiiragi Omamori Bracelet—together with 108 wooden juzu beads. Each bead is individually marked and secured with a knot, forming one continuous strand.

The necklace is available in three woods: cherry, Tagayasan ironwood, and African ebony. Each is made using the same type of wooden beads found in traditional juzu.

Since ancient times, knots have been believed to hold prayers within while forming a boundary against external impurity. In the same spirit, every bead of Shimeyui is carefully knotted by hand, with the wish that misfortune and impurity will be kept away from the wearer.

Retaining the quiet presence of a Buddhist ritual implement, Shimeyui has been gently reimagined as an adornment that blends naturally into everyday life.

Wear it over your clothing or tuck it discreetly beneath your neckline.
Let it rest against your skin like a personal amulet.
